Receive At Home, At Sea and the Sugar & Salt Series
The recipes and stories in At Home, At Sea recreate life on a Maine windjammer – a week in a different world, a different century – with homemade, old-world food cooked with fire and passion. In these pages, you’ll find memories of the Age of Sail- the gleam of brass, the sound of the wind in the rigging, and the delicious smells of Maine cooking- baked bread from the woodstove, steamed lobster, hearty stews, and mouthwatering desserts – all from the galley of the Schooner J. & E. Riggin.
The Sugar & Salt cookbook series is a collection of recipes, crafts, thoughts and stories from an adventurous, hilarious, sometimes frenetic, unique life off the Coast of Maine. Annie Mahle has two kitchens, one a floating restaurant and B&B that sails as a Maine windjammer all summer long, the Schooner J. & E. Riggin and the other her home, cooking for their family of four. As much a cookbook as it is a story of a lifestyle that is seasonal and sustainable.
Annie’s cooking, recipes, and cookbooks have been highlighted on the Today Show and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Her food and the Riggin have been featured in dozens of national media outlets including the Food Network, Traditional Home Magazine, Family Circle, Women’s Day, Boston Globe, and Maine Boats, Homes, and Harbors. Yankee Magazine has twice named the Riggin one of the “Top 10 Places to have Dinner with a View in Maine”.
